Disappointment.

Well, today sucked. I finally got a call to interview for one of about 10 jobs I’ve applied for. It definitely wasn’t what I thought it was going to be. The schedule is pretty erratic and it sort-of imposes on my nursing schedule.

FAIL. I had high hopes. My parents are really pressuring me to work, even though my apartment is paid up for the entire year. It’s really irritating. 😦

I tried to not let that bummer destroy my day, so I went and bought my nursing watch. I love it! Purple is my all time favorite color. It’s perfect. It even has military time around the face!

After I picked up the watch, I went to finish off the deposit for the apartment. I was hoping that they would give me some news on a move in date. Guess what? FAIL. Apparently, they haven’t heard from the current tenant, and he hasn’t turned in the keys. Looks like I’m going to have to wait until the first. Why does that suck? My birthday is the 1st. School starts Monday. Who wants to spend their birthday weekend moving? And who wants to move after school has started? Suckfest.

Hopefully, things will start to look up. I guess I don’t really have a lot to complain about, because so many things have workout thus far. I’m just stressed and anxious to get things over with. I hope everyone is having a better day than I am! I think I need a nap.

The Homestretch.

I’m sure that if you’ve been reading regularly, you’ve picked up on the chaos that has been my life. My posts have been sparse. I’m going to stop apologizing for that. I just can’t help it! LOL

Official Countdown: 6 days. 6 DAYS.

Holy Crap.

Since I last posted, all of my FinAid has been straightened out. THANK GOD. My hair was starting to fall out. The apartment is secured, for the year anyway, and I think I’ve paid for everything that immediately needs to be paid for. Now, just awaiting the phone call to sign the lease and start the moving process. *Fingers crossed* that phone call comes this week!

On to happier, less stressful thoughts. My shoes came in while I was out-of-town last week and I picked up my uniforms yesterday. I’m still dissatisfied with their appearance. They just seem like such an aggravation to wear. The pants feel too big, even though the size smaller was definitely too little. The jacket is just blah, and the polo is way to short to have to be tucked in. I feel like I just flat-out look like a goober. Oh well, it isn’t a fashion show, is it? 😛 I’m also trying to decide on a great nursing watch. I’ve been told we will chart using military time. Greattttt. I’m horrible with military time. I need a watch with a dual face. I’ve found a couple, I just need to make up my mind on which one to get. 😀 I’ve also finished up the majority of my reading assignments. I just hope I can remember what I’ve read. Haha

I’m looking forward to the weekend. Fo’ sho. I’m going to do some mega spending for my apartment. Who doesn’t enjoy that?! I’ll try to post pics of my best finds!

I hope everyone is enjoying this last little bit of freedom! Anybody have fun plans?

Have a great week!

Meltdown Mode.

I’d started to head in to meltdown mode. My financial aid is all screwed up and of course not in a way as to be beneficial for me. The money I was counting on to pay my rent isn’t coming. I thought I had run out of options, but then I thought about a private student loan. CRISIS AVERTED! I was pre-approved by my loaning institution for the amount that I need. Now, I just have to wait for the school to ‘certify’ the loan. Well, that news lead to me freaking out that they would find some reason to deny my loan. In the midst of my panic, I emailed financial aid and explained my situation. The reply I received brought with it some relief. Apparently, they only certify alternative loans once a week and then it will take a couple of weeks to get the money from my loaning institution. The email was so nonchalant. It sounds like it’s no big deal and that I will be approved with no questions. Fingers crossed that’s exactly what that means. BTW- Does anyone else have this much trouble with FinAid? I swear, if it’s not one thing with them, it’s another!

I actually started working on my reading assignments yesterday. WOW. I have forgotten how hard it is to get back into the swing of sitting down and reading for a couple of hours everyday. Slowly but surely, I’m getting into gear. It’s so hard to not just forget about school during my last 2 weeks of freedom! By the way, let’s see where the official countdown is *Flips to Dashboard*: 1 week and 4 days. Hopefully, during this 1 week and 4 days, I can start organizing for the move, finish up the reading, get my shoes in, pick up my uniform, and actually start the moving process. ARG. When I write it all out, it looks more overwhelming than when I just think about it. 😐

I hope that everyone has had/is having a great Hump Day! Only 2 days until the weekend!

Seriously Slacking.

I know, I know, I know! I made a promise that my regular posting schedule would resume. I didn’t lie, I swear! I just didn’t plan for the unexpected! I’ve had some hardcore, disturbing family drama going on and I’ve been distracted. I don’t want to bore you my family skeletons, besides, who wants to listen to someone else’s problems? On to good stuff!

As I last posted, I was approved for my apartment! Just wanted to let you all know it is 100% official now! I put down the deposit last Thursday! Hopefully, they will call me by the end of the week to let me know it’s ready for move-in! I don’t mean to rehash old blog topics, but I’m just super excited about this! 😛

In the midst of my excitement, I’ve been doing some major apartment shopping. As bad as I hate to admit this, I love to spend money! In my defense, who doesn’t?! Here are my latest purchases…

I don’t exactly know why, but I was dying to have this for my bathroom!

I have also been dying to get a new desk for about 2 years now. This is what I settled on. Target Special! 😉

I’ll let you know if I have any recommendations for these items after I’ve actually been able to use them for a while. Fingers crossed that they all fit in my little crayon box of an apartment! 😀 My almost mother-in-law is also giving me the cutest little kitchen table! Ok…shew, enough about that!

While I was out and about apartment shopping, I stopped by The Walking Company and ordered a pair of Dansko Professional shoes for clinicals. Anyone else ever heard of them? I hate having sore, achy feet. These are supposed to prevent that once your arches become accustomed to the super support that they provide.

In my opinion, they are by no means ‘attractive’ (at least not in plain white leather, BLAH). Everyone I know who owns a pair swears by them. I hope I’m not disappointed! My wallet took a major hit for these to be a flop. I also see quite a few of them running around the hospital, so that has to be a good sign.  I’ll try and review these too once I get to test them out. 😉 Hopefully, they will arrive by the end of the week! My uniforms also came in today, but I haven’t decided when/if I’m going to make the drive to pick them up. (A friend of mine offered to get them for me. Maybe I’ll just let him do that!)

I hope that everyone is having a great week and again, I’m sorry for the lack of posting! I have big plans to study and read this week, so prayers for motivation would be greatly appreciated! I would be glad to return the favor!

The Mad Dash!

I’m in a predicament. School starts in 2 weeks and 6 days and I have no place to live. I currently live about an 1 hour and 15 minutes (give or take a few) from the University. Last semester I drove that twice a week. It SUCKED. All I could think about was what I could have been doing with the time that I spent driving. (Those thoughts usually involved using that extra time to sleep. LOL) Now that I have my financial situation straightened out, I finally have a budget. I spent the day look for an apartment. BLAH. I didn’t have a whole lot of luck. I do have two promising leads, and actually put in an application at one. *Fingers Crossed* I REALLY need something to workout! Do any of you all live on campus? Or in an apartment? Just curious…

Like I said, the countdown is at 2 weeks and 6 days. WOOHOO! Not much time left! (…That reminds me…I really need to get started on that reading! :|) I’m starting to grow sad that Summer is coming to an end. I’m really going to miss all of the time that I’ve gotten to spend with my fiancé. I know it’s going to be rough trying to get back on to a school schedule.

I’d also like to apologize about my lack of posting. I spent the weekend dealing with family drama and chillin’ on a ‘mini-vacay’ with the boy. It’s really no excuse. I know. 😦 But rest assured, regular posting will resume!

I hope everyone got a great start to the week!

Reading, Reading, and More Reading.

The wait is over. All but one of my books came in the mail today. (Thank you, Chegg!) HOLY CRAP. They are HUGE. Man, this semester already feels like it’s going to be rough. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still excited, but I’m starting to feel a little uneasy. 😐

Here is an updated picture of my massive book mound:

Bye, bye social life!

I also got a really nice gift from Chegg. They sent me a really cool set of CDs that provide visual reference for an entire full body assessment. SWEET! I’m a visual leaner, so that was a very nice and welcomed surprise!

On another note, it’s Hump Day! I hope everyone is having a good week! I’m going to dive into a little bit of this reading. I really need to get back into the swing of this school business. LOL

SLOW, Nursing Books at Play!

I added the new page, School Schedule, to the blog thanks to some inspiration from Gertie. I’m not a creative individual by any stretch of the imagination, so I do a lot of studying and research to spark ideas for the blog. I really enjoy all of the comments I’ve been getting. They definitely help get the creative juices flowing!

3 weeks and 5 days left in the countdown and things are slowing down, for now anyway. I have everything ordered, paid for, picked up, and sorted out for the upcoming semester. I think. HAHA Now, I’m just waiting around for my books to show up in the mail so that I can get started on all that wonderful reading I need to do. I ended up spending about $357 dollars on books. That’s about $150 more than I originally thought. Stupid Patho book.

Here are the books I have so far:

I have 4 more on the way! All of this for 3 classes. Just 3.

I hope everyone is having a great week! I’m starving, so I’m going to make like a baby and get out of the mother! 😀

Doubts, They’re a Powerful Thing.

I had a great comment from a reader that really sparked the thought process. Marcia wanted to know if I ever doubted my decision to go into the nursing profession. What’s my answer to that? Absolutely. On more than one occasion, in fact.

During my first 3 years at my beloved University, I had no stinkin’ idea what to do with my life. At a mere 17 years old, how could I make a decision with such a deep impact like choosing a life-long career path? Within those first 3 years, I think I tried out about 4 different majors. Nothing gave me a feeling of assurance or satisfaction. I constantly wondered, ” Have I made the right decision?”

None of those majors held my interest enough to be life-long careers. I was scared, confused, and spending a lot of money that I now have to pay back. I decided to take a semester off to really explore my options. That’s when nursing fell into my lap. I accepted a job with a rehab facility, doing mostly aide work, with the intentions of further exploring my ever so slight interest in the nursing profession. When I showed up for orientation, I was absolutely scared out of my mind! What had I DONE? I can’t take care of people! I don’t even do a good job taking care of myself! However, I quickly got over that feeling of terror, and enjoyed the job. That’s when I knew that I was definitely making the right decision. I love helping people in their hour of greatest need. I love being able to be there when no one else is. I love having the opportunity to make a life-long impact and bring joy to otherwise dark times. I love medicine, and technology, and all of the wonderful opportunities that exist for nurses. I LOVE NURSING!

So here I am, getting prepared to start my first clinical semester. I never thought I would see this day come to fruition. Now I actually wake up excited about going school! I love to sit in lecture and ‘play’ in the lab! I’ll even secretly admit that I like most of the reading we’re required to do! But, my doubts have evolved. Now, I often doubt that I will ever be good enough to be the kind of nurse that I really want to be. I doubt that I will ever be able to learn everything that I need to learn and that I will ever reach the level that I want to reach.

How do I deal with these doubts? I start to ask myself questions like, what is it that brought me here? What do I love about nursing? What kind of nurse do I want to be and what kind of job do I want to have? For me, I use thoughts about my dream job (flight nursing!) to answer those questions. Thinking those thoughts really help me regain my focus and refresh my motivation.

Do you ever doubt your decision to pursue nursing? Do you doubt your abilities to be a good nurse? If so, how do you deal with these doubts? Let me know! I hope everyone is having a fantastic and restful Saturday! 🙂

Books, and Uniforms, and Homework! Oh My!

My nursing school pals and I decided to team up on the dreaded book hunt to help each other find the best deals. College text books can really put the squeeze on your wallet, but nursing text books take ‘the squeeze’ to a whole new level! Luckily for me, I kept 5 out of the 7 that we were required to purchase last semester. Why does that make me lucky? Because all 5 of those textbooks are required again this semester! WOOHOO! Unfortunately, I still have to purchase a few for the upcoming semester. In fact, I already purchased my med-surg book(s). I do have some reading to get done. BLAH! Including the med-surg book, I should only have to spend about $300.00 to get what I need. Up until this last semester, I rented my books. That helped me save a ton of money! The best, and I mean BEST, place to get textbooks is Chegg. I have saved SO MUCH MONEY through these guys! Not to mention, the customer service is excellent and they plant a tree every time you make a purchase. 🙂 I mean, it must be good if I’m willing to brag about it and they aren’t even paying me, right?! Does anyone already have all of their books, if so, where do you get them? I feel like I should have them all, since I do already have homework, but I just don’t want to go that far yet. There’s still just a tiny bit of summer hanging on!

Moving on…

You all already know about my uniform situation, but plans on when and where to meet have been finalized with my peeps and all systems are go! I’m rather relieved that our uniform expenses aren’t as outrageous as our other required items. *Cough, cough* $15 dollar NAME TAG! I still can’t manage to get over that one. And then there’s the homework. I’m on summer vacation and I have homework! My new friend Gertie (HOLLA! :P) posted a DA–Dimensional Analysis–problem and asked for my two cents…lets just say that it took me a little while to find my bearings! It was a good wake up call that I need to dust of the ol’ brain and get to studying! Thanks for that little kick in the tush, Gertie!

I hope everyone is having a fantastic week!
