The Verdict is IN!

Remember those reviews I promised? That’s right, they’re finally here! Better late than never, right? You could even look at it this way, everything has now had fair and equal opportunity to prove its worth. (If you’d like to see the original post about the items being reviewed, click here.)

Let’s start with the shoes.

Remember these ugly things?

Friends, I’ll be honest. I wouldn’t give these dreadful things to a pack of starving, stray dogs. They are NOT what they are pumped up to be. They are stiff, hard, hot, and just plain uncomfortable. It’s rather unfortunate that I had to give over $100 to figure that out. Live and learn, I guess. So, I passed them along to someone who really wanted to give them a try and settled for a pair of white, leather AVIAs. They look something like this (just all white, of course! *rolls eyes*):

Even uglier, right?! Go ahead and get over it, because these are SO comfortable! I’m very, very happy (and my feet are too!) that I made the switch! There is no way I could have gone to an 8-9 hour clinical day with those stupid Danskos. -__-

Alright, 1 down…what’s next?  Ah, yes…the watch!

I LOVE THIS WATCH! Sorry, was that too much? This is, by far, the best investment I have made in…a while. It’s super comfy, and adds the perfect amount of personal taste to my otherwise boring uniform. It is made by the company Prestige Medical and I highly recommend it! (For whatever that’s worth. Haha) They come in several colors, too. How fun! 😀

Now for the desk. You see, my desk and I have become great friends. In fact, I’m almost certain that I spent more time with it than I did my fiancé, family, and friends combined. *Raises eyebrow* Anywho, for $60, WOWZA!

I absolutely love this desk! It’s very sturdy, has plenty of storage space, and has the perfect amount of desk top space! The only negative thing I have to say about this desk is: assembly required. Seriously. They weren’t kidding. I could have NEVER put this desk together by myself. NEVER EVER.  It started out as about 2309482309 wooden pieces that were accompanied by vague, almost completely pictorial instructions. Who can put together a 3-dimentional object by looking at a 2-dimentional picture?! C’MON!

Last, but not least, I have to give a little shout-out to my zebra shower curtain. It’s just as glorious as I imagined. ^.^ Well friends, that’s a wrap! If anyone has any specific questions about these items, feel free to ask!

Make sure that you stay tuned, I have plenty of topics to blog about over the break! It’s so hard to decide what to write about first! I hope everyone is having a great week! Only 3 days until Christmas! Did you make the nice list this year? Hehe

Disappointment.

Well, today sucked. I finally got a call to interview for one of about 10 jobs I’ve applied for. It definitely wasn’t what I thought it was going to be. The schedule is pretty erratic and it sort-of imposes on my nursing schedule.

FAIL. I had high hopes. My parents are really pressuring me to work, even though my apartment is paid up for the entire year. It’s really irritating. 😦

I tried to not let that bummer destroy my day, so I went and bought my nursing watch. I love it! Purple is my all time favorite color. It’s perfect. It even has military time around the face!

After I picked up the watch, I went to finish off the deposit for the apartment. I was hoping that they would give me some news on a move in date. Guess what? FAIL. Apparently, they haven’t heard from the current tenant, and he hasn’t turned in the keys. Looks like I’m going to have to wait until the first. Why does that suck? My birthday is the 1st. School starts Monday. Who wants to spend their birthday weekend moving? And who wants to move after school has started? Suckfest.

Hopefully, things will start to look up. I guess I don’t really have a lot to complain about, because so many things have workout thus far. I’m just stressed and anxious to get things over with. I hope everyone is having a better day than I am! I think I need a nap.

Cooking, Anyone?

This post is going to be way off topic. Just a heads up!

And Gertie, I know this is going to be right up your alley so I expect some feedback! Hehe  😉

As you are all well aware, I am moving back out into the real world soon. My last adventure in apartment living was just mediocre. The apartment was in the ghetto and I had horrible neighbors. I worked all the time, my apartment was bare and drab, my cat was constantly destroying something, and the place was always a wreck. This time around, I’m hoping to reform my ways. LOL I don’t have to work to survive like I did previously and that exhausted me so much that I rarely ever cleaned. (Of course, I still need to work but it only has to be part-time. Fingers crossed for a campus job!) So, with a fresh start, I’m hoping to instill some better habits on the home front. I just want an apartment that is comfortable enough to have friends over without worrying about what they think.

Since I’ll be spending more time at home, I also want to venture into the realm of cooking. What’s my cooking motto? If it doesn’t go in to the microwave, I don’t eat it! I am so sick and tired of eating nasty, bland, microwave food. Not to mention, my mid-section isn’t very appreciative of my microwave food habits either. I don’t really know where to start. I do know that I need to do some more shopping for proper kitchen utensils. I thought I might look around for a very basic cookbook for a very beginner cook, you know, something that has all of the basic cooking essentials. Any advice? Any cookbook recommendations?

I hope that everyone is having a great Tuesday! We don’t have much freedom left, so enjoy it while it lasts! 😀

Seriously Slacking.

I know, I know, I know! I made a promise that my regular posting schedule would resume. I didn’t lie, I swear! I just didn’t plan for the unexpected! I’ve had some hardcore, disturbing family drama going on and I’ve been distracted. I don’t want to bore you my family skeletons, besides, who wants to listen to someone else’s problems? On to good stuff!

As I last posted, I was approved for my apartment! Just wanted to let you all know it is 100% official now! I put down the deposit last Thursday! Hopefully, they will call me by the end of the week to let me know it’s ready for move-in! I don’t mean to rehash old blog topics, but I’m just super excited about this! 😛

In the midst of my excitement, I’ve been doing some major apartment shopping. As bad as I hate to admit this, I love to spend money! In my defense, who doesn’t?! Here are my latest purchases…

I don’t exactly know why, but I was dying to have this for my bathroom!

I have also been dying to get a new desk for about 2 years now. This is what I settled on. Target Special! 😉

I’ll let you know if I have any recommendations for these items after I’ve actually been able to use them for a while. Fingers crossed that they all fit in my little crayon box of an apartment! 😀 My almost mother-in-law is also giving me the cutest little kitchen table! Ok…shew, enough about that!

While I was out and about apartment shopping, I stopped by The Walking Company and ordered a pair of Dansko Professional shoes for clinicals. Anyone else ever heard of them? I hate having sore, achy feet. These are supposed to prevent that once your arches become accustomed to the super support that they provide.

In my opinion, they are by no means ‘attractive’ (at least not in plain white leather, BLAH). Everyone I know who owns a pair swears by them. I hope I’m not disappointed! My wallet took a major hit for these to be a flop. I also see quite a few of them running around the hospital, so that has to be a good sign.  I’ll try and review these too once I get to test them out. 😉 Hopefully, they will arrive by the end of the week! My uniforms also came in today, but I haven’t decided when/if I’m going to make the drive to pick them up. (A friend of mine offered to get them for me. Maybe I’ll just let him do that!)

I hope that everyone is having a great week and again, I’m sorry for the lack of posting! I have big plans to study and read this week, so prayers for motivation would be greatly appreciated! I would be glad to return the favor!

Thank God for Answered Prayers!

GOOD NEWS! I got approved for an apartment! YESSS! No more hour and fifteen minute commute through rain, snow, sleet, hail, high winds, sheets of ice, and high water! Think I’m kidding? Look at this…

It took me over 2 hours to get to school on this particular day.

I can’t even begin accurately express my feelings about this situation! I’m SO relieved! Thank you to anyone who might have been sending prayers and thoughts my way! 🙂 And, even though I’m thrilled about the end result, I have to admit that I absolutely hate moving. HATE IT. No matter how hard I try to stay organized, it never works. It makes me feel like a failure at life. Ok, maybe not that bad…but I really hate being disorganized! I also hate the fact that no matter how hard I try to have a ‘cutesy’ living space, it just looks like a Freshman dorm room. Plain, empty, boring, and usually dirty. BLAH. I’m going to try really hard to stay on top of the cleaning. LOL

Moving on, today has been pretty busy. My mother’s poor dog had to have her tail amputated today and my doggie had to get his shots. 😦 Needless to say, there was a lot of doggie pampering going on at my house today. Good thing I love them that much! 😛 I know it’s no excuse for posting so late, but I’m using it anyway. Any complaints can be forwarded to my doggies. Good luck! 😀

On a more geeky note, I downloaded a new widget about a week ago. (Yes, I’m an Apple fan. I love my MacBook Pro!) It’s a countdown that sits in my dashboard. The official countdown is at…drum roll, please…2 weeks and 4 days! I have shamelessly neglected the reading that I should have  been doing because I’ve been preoccupied with this apartment business. Now that ends are starting to meet, I have got to get crackin’! Time is starting to slip by! Anyone else starting to get nervous? The anxiety and ‘not knowing’ is KILLING me!

I hope everyone is enjoying the last little bit of freedom before the crazy semester begins. Anyone have any big plans before school starts? I wish I did! But hopefully, I can just live vicariously through some of you! Hang in there, it’s almost the weekend!

Monday, Monday, Monday!

I had full intentions to blog yesterday, but by the time I was able to get to the computer I had a horrible headache and decided to go to bed instead. Sorry. 😦  I also thought I would come up with some kind of nursing school related material, but that just isn’t happening either! So, what exactly this blog about? ME! I thought maybe you all would like to know just a little bit more about who I am.

My name is Rachael and I am a 21-year-old nursing student. I am a college Senior who changed her major at the last possible moment to nursing. I am SO glad that I did! Whew! I saved myself from a life of unemployment and misery. I am in a 4 year BSN program and have 2 years left. Anyway, when I’m not overwhelmed with school I like to spend my time with my fiancé. We have been together almost 5 years. 🙂 I love that boy. He was a true gift from God and I thank Him everyday for that! We live 3 and 1/2 hours apart at the moment, so it’s a good thing that I love to travel! We are the proud parents of a 3-year-old shih-tzu named Bensen. He IS the best dog ever! Then, after all is said and done,I have figure skating! I’m an adult skater who started taking lessons about a year and half ago. Let me warn you, it is truly an addictive sport! I recently competed in my first competition which was an absolute blast! I’m pretty easy-going but I always like to have a plan. I love to laugh and have a good time. (This is starting to sound like a dating website profile…) I like to be outdoors, I’m always cold, and I am currently obsessed with the song, “If I die young” by The Band Perry.

Well, I suppose if you haven’t fallen asleep that you are definitely ready for this post to end! How do you all like to spend your free time? What are your hobbies? If there is anything else you would like to know about me, feel free to ask! But, I will say…I might not answer everything. I am trying to keep myself neutral since I am blogging about nursing school. Don’t want to get myself into any kind of trouble! 😛

Peace out, girl scout!
