Slow Your Roll, Nursing School!

Oh. My. WOW.

This week has been unbelievably insane. I don’t know how any single human being who works any kind of job or has children/a family to care for makes it through nursing school alive. I haven’t even had time to breathe! THIS IS ONLY THE FIRST WEEK!

So, you might be able to tell, I’m a little stressed out. Ok, more like A LOT stressed out! I have my first exam next week and it’s a dosage calculation exam. We have to pass it with a grade of 80% or higher. If we fail to do so, we cannot pass meds in the clinical setting until we achieve that 80%. If you aren’t successful after 3 tries, you’re out.

Now, I’m not horrible at the math, but I’m not completely comfortable with it either. We just learned IV drip rates on Wednesday. Last semester’s dosage calculation test contained no IV stuff. I made a 100% on that one! I’d love to have a repeat this time around, because that would give my grade a nice boost for the semester. I guess I’ll be spending my weekend working out 23489074579 med math problems! 😛

I also have TONS of reading. I already expected that, so no shock there. I just need to suck it up, and get into the habit of doing it. I really dislike reading. 😐 Anywho, everything else went really well this week! So far, I’m having a blast! I hope all of you are, too!

I think I have decided to quit looking for a job. And those who are pressuring me, *COUGH* mom and dad, can just suck it. I honestly don’t think I could do it. I don’t have enough time in the day to get everything finished now, let alone work a job! I also realized this week, that there is absolutely no way I could have continued to commute the 1 hour and 15 minutes that I have in previous semesters. It’s just such a waste of time that I could be using in other ways. (Like…sleeping, eating, bathing, studying, reading, and did I mention sleeping?!) Thank God that everything has work out in the way that it has! Now, if the 1st could just get here so that I could move! (And turn 22! :D) This first week of driving has worn. me. out!

I hope that everyone has had a fantastic week! Please, please let me know how things went for you guys! I’m sorry I didn’t post sooner, but as you can see, all hell as broken loose! Enjoy your weekend! I’ve got some fun things going on for a change! 😀 One last hoorah with my fiancé (that I REALLY don’t have time for!) before I give up my social life completely!

D-Day.

Well, this. is. it.

It’s 11:30 and I can’t sleep. The anxiety has definitely set in and I’m left wondering, what the crap have I gotten myself into?! I mean, I can do this, right?!

Right.

Good. I just needed some reassurance.

I’ve been going back and forth with my two friends left in the program all day. We are all so excited we can’t stand ourselves! But, at the same time, I think we  just needed to know that we weren’t the only one who felt like they were totally clueless. I feel like I should know more. I’m scared that it’s going to be  expected of me to already know more.

To be honest, I just hope I end up in the right place tomorrow. And I hope I haven’t forgotten anything. STRESSS!

Here’s to the fresh start of a new chapter. May I survive to see another semester!

I hope that you all have a fabulous Monday! Please let me know how your first day went!

Disappointment.

Well, today sucked. I finally got a call to interview for one of about 10 jobs I’ve applied for. It definitely wasn’t what I thought it was going to be. The schedule is pretty erratic and it sort-of imposes on my nursing schedule.

FAIL. I had high hopes. My parents are really pressuring me to work, even though my apartment is paid up for the entire year. It’s really irritating. 😦

I tried to not let that bummer destroy my day, so I went and bought my nursing watch. I love it! Purple is my all time favorite color. It’s perfect. It even has military time around the face!

After I picked up the watch, I went to finish off the deposit for the apartment. I was hoping that they would give me some news on a move in date. Guess what? FAIL. Apparently, they haven’t heard from the current tenant, and he hasn’t turned in the keys. Looks like I’m going to have to wait until the first. Why does that suck? My birthday is the 1st. School starts Monday. Who wants to spend their birthday weekend moving? And who wants to move after school has started? Suckfest.

Hopefully, things will start to look up. I guess I don’t really have a lot to complain about, because so many things have workout thus far. I’m just stressed and anxious to get things over with. I hope everyone is having a better day than I am! I think I need a nap.

The Homestretch.

I’m sure that if you’ve been reading regularly, you’ve picked up on the chaos that has been my life. My posts have been sparse. I’m going to stop apologizing for that. I just can’t help it! LOL

Official Countdown: 6 days. 6 DAYS.

Holy Crap.

Since I last posted, all of my FinAid has been straightened out. THANK GOD. My hair was starting to fall out. The apartment is secured, for the year anyway, and I think I’ve paid for everything that immediately needs to be paid for. Now, just awaiting the phone call to sign the lease and start the moving process. *Fingers crossed* that phone call comes this week!

On to happier, less stressful thoughts. My shoes came in while I was out-of-town last week and I picked up my uniforms yesterday. I’m still dissatisfied with their appearance. They just seem like such an aggravation to wear. The pants feel too big, even though the size smaller was definitely too little. The jacket is just blah, and the polo is way to short to have to be tucked in. I feel like I just flat-out look like a goober. Oh well, it isn’t a fashion show, is it? 😛 I’m also trying to decide on a great nursing watch. I’ve been told we will chart using military time. Greattttt. I’m horrible with military time. I need a watch with a dual face. I’ve found a couple, I just need to make up my mind on which one to get. 😀 I’ve also finished up the majority of my reading assignments. I just hope I can remember what I’ve read. Haha

I’m looking forward to the weekend. Fo’ sho. I’m going to do some mega spending for my apartment. Who doesn’t enjoy that?! I’ll try to post pics of my best finds!

I hope everyone is enjoying this last little bit of freedom! Anybody have fun plans?

Have a great week!

Meltdown Mode.

I’d started to head in to meltdown mode. My financial aid is all screwed up and of course not in a way as to be beneficial for me. The money I was counting on to pay my rent isn’t coming. I thought I had run out of options, but then I thought about a private student loan. CRISIS AVERTED! I was pre-approved by my loaning institution for the amount that I need. Now, I just have to wait for the school to ‘certify’ the loan. Well, that news lead to me freaking out that they would find some reason to deny my loan. In the midst of my panic, I emailed financial aid and explained my situation. The reply I received brought with it some relief. Apparently, they only certify alternative loans once a week and then it will take a couple of weeks to get the money from my loaning institution. The email was so nonchalant. It sounds like it’s no big deal and that I will be approved with no questions. Fingers crossed that’s exactly what that means. BTW- Does anyone else have this much trouble with FinAid? I swear, if it’s not one thing with them, it’s another!

I actually started working on my reading assignments yesterday. WOW. I have forgotten how hard it is to get back into the swing of sitting down and reading for a couple of hours everyday. Slowly but surely, I’m getting into gear. It’s so hard to not just forget about school during my last 2 weeks of freedom! By the way, let’s see where the official countdown is *Flips to Dashboard*: 1 week and 4 days. Hopefully, during this 1 week and 4 days, I can start organizing for the move, finish up the reading, get my shoes in, pick up my uniform, and actually start the moving process. ARG. When I write it all out, it looks more overwhelming than when I just think about it. 😐

I hope that everyone has had/is having a great Hump Day! Only 2 days until the weekend!

Cooking, Anyone?

This post is going to be way off topic. Just a heads up!

And Gertie, I know this is going to be right up your alley so I expect some feedback! Hehe  😉

As you are all well aware, I am moving back out into the real world soon. My last adventure in apartment living was just mediocre. The apartment was in the ghetto and I had horrible neighbors. I worked all the time, my apartment was bare and drab, my cat was constantly destroying something, and the place was always a wreck. This time around, I’m hoping to reform my ways. LOL I don’t have to work to survive like I did previously and that exhausted me so much that I rarely ever cleaned. (Of course, I still need to work but it only has to be part-time. Fingers crossed for a campus job!) So, with a fresh start, I’m hoping to instill some better habits on the home front. I just want an apartment that is comfortable enough to have friends over without worrying about what they think.

Since I’ll be spending more time at home, I also want to venture into the realm of cooking. What’s my cooking motto? If it doesn’t go in to the microwave, I don’t eat it! I am so sick and tired of eating nasty, bland, microwave food. Not to mention, my mid-section isn’t very appreciative of my microwave food habits either. I don’t really know where to start. I do know that I need to do some more shopping for proper kitchen utensils. I thought I might look around for a very basic cookbook for a very beginner cook, you know, something that has all of the basic cooking essentials. Any advice? Any cookbook recommendations?

I hope that everyone is having a great Tuesday! We don’t have much freedom left, so enjoy it while it lasts! 😀

Seriously Slacking.

I know, I know, I know! I made a promise that my regular posting schedule would resume. I didn’t lie, I swear! I just didn’t plan for the unexpected! I’ve had some hardcore, disturbing family drama going on and I’ve been distracted. I don’t want to bore you my family skeletons, besides, who wants to listen to someone else’s problems? On to good stuff!

As I last posted, I was approved for my apartment! Just wanted to let you all know it is 100% official now! I put down the deposit last Thursday! Hopefully, they will call me by the end of the week to let me know it’s ready for move-in! I don’t mean to rehash old blog topics, but I’m just super excited about this! 😛

In the midst of my excitement, I’ve been doing some major apartment shopping. As bad as I hate to admit this, I love to spend money! In my defense, who doesn’t?! Here are my latest purchases…

I don’t exactly know why, but I was dying to have this for my bathroom!

I have also been dying to get a new desk for about 2 years now. This is what I settled on. Target Special! 😉

I’ll let you know if I have any recommendations for these items after I’ve actually been able to use them for a while. Fingers crossed that they all fit in my little crayon box of an apartment! 😀 My almost mother-in-law is also giving me the cutest little kitchen table! Ok…shew, enough about that!

While I was out and about apartment shopping, I stopped by The Walking Company and ordered a pair of Dansko Professional shoes for clinicals. Anyone else ever heard of them? I hate having sore, achy feet. These are supposed to prevent that once your arches become accustomed to the super support that they provide.

In my opinion, they are by no means ‘attractive’ (at least not in plain white leather, BLAH). Everyone I know who owns a pair swears by them. I hope I’m not disappointed! My wallet took a major hit for these to be a flop. I also see quite a few of them running around the hospital, so that has to be a good sign.  I’ll try and review these too once I get to test them out. 😉 Hopefully, they will arrive by the end of the week! My uniforms also came in today, but I haven’t decided when/if I’m going to make the drive to pick them up. (A friend of mine offered to get them for me. Maybe I’ll just let him do that!)

I hope that everyone is having a great week and again, I’m sorry for the lack of posting! I have big plans to study and read this week, so prayers for motivation would be greatly appreciated! I would be glad to return the favor!

Thank God for Answered Prayers!

GOOD NEWS! I got approved for an apartment! YESSS! No more hour and fifteen minute commute through rain, snow, sleet, hail, high winds, sheets of ice, and high water! Think I’m kidding? Look at this…

It took me over 2 hours to get to school on this particular day.

I can’t even begin accurately express my feelings about this situation! I’m SO relieved! Thank you to anyone who might have been sending prayers and thoughts my way! 🙂 And, even though I’m thrilled about the end result, I have to admit that I absolutely hate moving. HATE IT. No matter how hard I try to stay organized, it never works. It makes me feel like a failure at life. Ok, maybe not that bad…but I really hate being disorganized! I also hate the fact that no matter how hard I try to have a ‘cutesy’ living space, it just looks like a Freshman dorm room. Plain, empty, boring, and usually dirty. BLAH. I’m going to try really hard to stay on top of the cleaning. LOL

Moving on, today has been pretty busy. My mother’s poor dog had to have her tail amputated today and my doggie had to get his shots. 😦 Needless to say, there was a lot of doggie pampering going on at my house today. Good thing I love them that much! 😛 I know it’s no excuse for posting so late, but I’m using it anyway. Any complaints can be forwarded to my doggies. Good luck! 😀

On a more geeky note, I downloaded a new widget about a week ago. (Yes, I’m an Apple fan. I love my MacBook Pro!) It’s a countdown that sits in my dashboard. The official countdown is at…drum roll, please…2 weeks and 4 days! I have shamelessly neglected the reading that I should have  been doing because I’ve been preoccupied with this apartment business. Now that ends are starting to meet, I have got to get crackin’! Time is starting to slip by! Anyone else starting to get nervous? The anxiety and ‘not knowing’ is KILLING me!

I hope everyone is enjoying the last little bit of freedom before the crazy semester begins. Anyone have any big plans before school starts? I wish I did! But hopefully, I can just live vicariously through some of you! Hang in there, it’s almost the weekend!

The Mad Dash!

I’m in a predicament. School starts in 2 weeks and 6 days and I have no place to live. I currently live about an 1 hour and 15 minutes (give or take a few) from the University. Last semester I drove that twice a week. It SUCKED. All I could think about was what I could have been doing with the time that I spent driving. (Those thoughts usually involved using that extra time to sleep. LOL) Now that I have my financial situation straightened out, I finally have a budget. I spent the day look for an apartment. BLAH. I didn’t have a whole lot of luck. I do have two promising leads, and actually put in an application at one. *Fingers Crossed* I REALLY need something to workout! Do any of you all live on campus? Or in an apartment? Just curious…

Like I said, the countdown is at 2 weeks and 6 days. WOOHOO! Not much time left! (…That reminds me…I really need to get started on that reading! :|) I’m starting to grow sad that Summer is coming to an end. I’m really going to miss all of the time that I’ve gotten to spend with my fiancé. I know it’s going to be rough trying to get back on to a school schedule.

I’d also like to apologize about my lack of posting. I spent the weekend dealing with family drama and chillin’ on a ‘mini-vacay’ with the boy. It’s really no excuse. I know. 😦 But rest assured, regular posting will resume!

I hope everyone got a great start to the week!
